HD PVR

HI, I have been holding off buying a HD PVR as I had hoped Motorola would release an newer version of the DCT 6412,  If I am correct the DCT 6412 was released in the fall of 2004. Is there an new model ready for release, bigger hard drive more efficient ASIC chips, maybe H.264, faster menus?

Standalone HD DVR

Looking for an option besides the soon-to-be-not-so-compatible HR10250 for recording HD content from both DirecTV and off-air sources. Currently have an integrated DirecTV/Tivo for standard-def with a 160 gig drive, but considering getting an HD set and want to do it ONCE. While the previous relationship between Tivo and DirecTV is history, there are those of us who like the Tivo programming system and would like something as close to that as we might find without having to wait until fall for a unit that is Mpeg4 compatible. Do any of the CE manufacturers have anything coming out (SOON!) that might fit the bill?

High Definition DVR

Currently have 2 Stand Alone Tivo's & I'm anxiously awaiting the series 3.  Between now and then I would really love to get an HD-DVR for my OTA HD shows.  I've search high and low and wanted to see what suggestions y'all might have. I have a Toshiba TV and the Symbio is an option - it uses the TV tuner.

How did you choose your PVR?

I have a PVR.  You have a PVR.  I know what made me buy mine, what made you pick yours over the other PVRs?  I'm specifically curious about features and pricing, although any factors you used in making your decision would be interesting.

What about a non TIVO PVR?

I want to buy a PVR that works like a VCR but I don't want to pay for the content guide fees of TIVO or Replay.

Where can I buy a HD based PVR that let's me control recording on my own?

DVR for DVD burning

I want to buy a second DVR for my second cable box in order to record and to cut DVDs that will be playable my existing region 1 DVD player.  What is a good, not necessarily cheap machine for this purpose?

DVR for Voom HDTV

Hello I'm looking to buy a DVR preferably PC based that records HD 1080i and 720p. Does anybody know of a company that sells the setup? I know that Tivo and Replay do not have a HD box the best they do is DVD quality.

iLo PVR any good?

I am looking for opinions on a new PVR made by iLo.  It has an 80 gig hard drive and a dvd burner.  It's sold through WalMart and only costs $278.

From some of the forum threads I've read about this, it seems like there were early issues due to bad firmware, but they have all be resolved with the recent updates.  It also appears to be very easy to replace the hard drive.  Just swap it out, format from the menu and you are done.

I haven't seen it at my local WalMart yet and I was just looking for some more info.

Cox DVRs VS everyone else?

I am looking to get into Digital Cable and also in to a DVR solution as well. Since my cable company is Cox Communications and they offer a Digital Cable Box/DVR for $6 more a month, I am wondering if this is really worth it, or should I just get a digital box and build a PVR, or get a digital box and but a PVR?

Subscription free PVR?

I have been looking for months trying to find a PVR/DVR that does not require you to pay a monthly fee. I don't want or need the features that Tivo or Replaytv offer. The only one I found that looks any good is the RCA DCR-7005n. Unforunately, this unit is no longer in production and has several firmware issues. So that's out. So my question is, is there anything out there that is just a bare-bones PVR, with perhaps the free GemStar guide? Are there any new PVRs coming to the market anytime soon?

Just want to pause live tv

I've been looking at Tivo and Replay - all the fancy features are nice. But for me what it really comes down to is the ability to pause live tv in order to time delay and then fast forward through commercials. I would rather avoid the monthly fees and just get a basic box that can record ala VCR style to a hard drive and then be able to start watching while it's recording. Does such a product exist??

HD DVR options for Cable Customers?

The vast majority of america's tech community has the same question: I am a cable customer today, and want to use HD services from the cable company WITH DVR capabilities. What can I do?

Details: Comcast keeps delaying their own Motorolla DVR boxes, and the early units are getting poor reviews. Tivo hasn't (won't?) come out with an "open format" HD DVR to plug into the back of a cable box. Panasonic, Sony, and a bunch of small vendors are pitching HD DVR's (many with MSFT's new Media Center OS), but it's unclear if the cable companies block all, some, or none of these from supporting HD recording?

I'm in the middle of a massive home media center upgrade, and am totally frozen right now because of this -- I don't want to switch to Direct TV because they don't have local HD signals, Comcast isn't going to solve this soon because their DVR isn't close to TIVO quality, and the open format strong brand-name HD DVR's don't seem to work with cable. What is my best option?
