« Dish DVR USB Connection | Main | DVD Burner Compatible with TiVo »
I have the Pioneer combo unit and am having trouble burning DVDs of movies I have been recording. Would it have been better to buy a stand alone DVR burner? Also, with TivoToGo, will I be able to burn HBO movies, etc. on to a DVD?

With TiVoToGo, you should be able to burn movies on a PC with a DVD burner, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to burn directly using a standalone burner.

The first issue is the problems - I've had an 810H for a year. In that time I've burned maybe a few dozen DVDs (I burned 26 DVDs of Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, for myself - and friends who missed it or live where it didn't air) without any trouble. You might want to hit the TiVo Help Forums under the 'Support' link on their site, one of us might be able to help.
A standalone burner may have some advantages - some allow editing - but you have the big disadvantage of loss of quality for the extra D-A-D connection. Plus just the added hassle of having to re-record the content from the TiVo to the burner, which means you can use the TiVo to watch anything else while that's happening.
With TiVoToGo it really depends on the copy control on the source material. They've stated all along that they have to honor things like the Broadcast Flag, and if HBO says no copies, they will honor that. Come to think of it - maybe that is the problem with burning the discs on the Pioneer, HBO does use some copy control today.
