Anyone know how to connect the tivo to the internet via computer? My computer is connected to a broadband wireless network. I've got a crossover ethernet wire to connect my computer to the tivo, now I just need to figure out how to get the Tivo to find the internet. Essentially I am trying to turn my computer into a router that Tivo can work with, but have had no luck. Any ideas?

Why not just put a WiFi adapter on the TiVo and let it connect right to the wireless network?
You can do what you're doing, but you need to configure connection sharing in Windows.

I concur with megazone... and *just* shlopped a usb "thumb" dlink wifi to my series 2 tivo...
It was pretty straightforward, and there are some helpful faq's on the tivo site (I had just moved and there's no phone jack in the living room so I had to enter a special prefix ,#401 I think so that I could do the guided setup completely through the network adapter...)
Is there a reason (besides you already purchased a wired adapter?) that you don't want to do a usb wifi route?

Stephen,
If you have a series 1 like I do, you'll need a turbonet card to give you ethernet access. Then you're going to have to hack in using a specific linux distro from your PC and transfer files so you can ftp back and forth from the tivo.
Instructions start here:

FYI: DirecTV Tivo devices to not support this setup. Although their DVR's have USB connectors, they are disabled. The network software is also disabled.
Also, just spoke with DirecTV sales. They do not plan to offer Tivo 2 any time soon.

We are in Canada and have subscribed to directv thru directv. I want to authorize the TiVo to work but when it dials out of the receiver it gets a busy signal. How do I change the number it calls so it camn be accessed from canada?

I have a TiVo series 2 and am trying to hook it up to my desktop. I am sharing a wireless network connection with my roommate next door, with my wireless PC card, so my old ethernet port is not being used. How can i connect my TiVo to my computer ethernet? Do i need to plug it into a router first? Can i just use an ethernet crossover cable? And why can't i just connect my USB directly from TiVo to my PC? And if I use a wireless adapter on my TiVo, it would have to be configured through my roommates router, right? My PC wireless card won't "recognize" the wireless adapter on my TiVo, or will it?
lots of questions,
danny

I AM PLANNING ON CONNECTING MY TIVO TO OTHER TV'S AND MY COMPUTER. I HAVE A LYNKSIS WIRLESS/WIRED ETHERNET HUB. I DO HAVE EVERY ROOM IN MY HOUSE HARDWIRED FOR ETHERNET. WHAT DEVICES DO I NEED TO CONNECT MY COMPUTER TO TIVO AND TIVO TO OTHER TV'S. I CAN USE WIFI BUT THE LAYOUT AND CONIFIGURATION OF THE HOUSE LIMITS THE VIABILITY OF WIFI. I ASSUME THAT I WOULD USE A USB TO ETHERNET ADAPTER FOR THE TIVO (WILL IT SHOW UP ON MY NETWORK AS A COMPUTER?) what do i use to connect the tivo signal to another tv?
thanks for any help
