I just recently got a TiVo Series 2 (I'm an early adopter of some technologies and not of others). I have a variety of video that I have personally shot and, therefore, indisputably own the copyright to. I want to put some of that video onto my TiVo for the kind of easy viewing TiVo seems to have been invented for. In searching the web, I have been unable to find a way. How can I put my video onto TiVo?

You could hack your Series 2 TiVo unit to get to the point where you could take and put video on it, but I'm not sure if the hardware supports any codecs beyond the custom one it uses for TiVo video.
A better option is to try out one of the many networked media devices like the Gateway Connected DVD player I reviewed on PVRblog here:

If you've got loads of video in any format (except quicktime mov), it's fairly easy to hook a box up to your TV/home theater system and stream video over the network from one of your PCs.

Unless you want to hack a Series 1 TiVo, the only way I know of to get stuff onto it is to plug the video input into a new device and make a manual recording, at which point all of your recordings show up on the TiVo as "Manual Recording," which isn't always the best option.
The separate boxes may be a good option if you have a lot of video, or photos, or music. If you have a Mac, your clear winning option is El Gato's EyeHome box.

Thanks for the suggestions.
What I am hoping for is a software solution. There are several hacks that pull video off the device and convert it for playback on a PC. I'd like a hack that takes PC video, in whatever format, converts it into TiVo format, and places it in "Now Playing".
Any ideas?

I just found this, and I trying it out as I speak. It cliams to do just what you are asking Tenaya. Hopefully it works for both of us! (Also I should mention that it is free!)
