Combo TIVO/DVRs

Two questions: With Tivo to go, why would anyone need a unit that burns? Why not transfer everthing from a regular Series 2 to PC, then burn from there?

Second, I understand that these combo units will only burn what's recorded on that specific box, ie you can't tranfer stuff via HMO and burn it, and you can't even plug the combo unit into another SA unit and burn. What is the solution? Buying two combo units?

You can always connect the output of another unit to the input of the combo unit and re-record things and then burn.

TiVoToGo won't be useful for everyone - not everyone has a DVD burner on their PC. A lot of people who have TiVo have it because they're *not* geeks, just non-technical people looking for something better than their VCR. TiVo is sold in Target, Sam's Club. etc. A lot of the people buying them aren't really tech savvy and they won't be whipping up DVDs in Nero anytime soon.

So a combo unit is a nice alternative. Even for geeks, like myself, it is nice. I own a 810H combo and I like it a lot. I have no trouble burning DVDs on PCs, I could easily build a MythTV box if I felt like it - but I don't. I have a lot of other things I already don't have time to do and messing with my DVR or DVD burning isn't high on my list. So I like that TiVo is reliable and very usable, and when I want to burn a disc I hit a few buttons and get on with what I was doing. It is the easy solution - not perfect, since there is no editing, etc - but good enough for most things.

I have multiple units - and I just never burn content from my normal S2. If I know there is something I may way to burn I make sure I record it on the 810H. I use the S2 mainly for conflict resolution.

When I have TTG I'd probably use it more to take some shows on the road with me. Or maybe to make compilation dics of the good bits of The Daily Show or something. :-)

Hey the question should be -

If you can burn already from your Tivo - Why do you need
Tivo ToGo?

I have tried in vain to burn a dvd from tivo recordings that I was able to transfer to my PC through TTG. Is there a secret that I need to know about? I'm using Nero but it craps out in the middle. I would appreciate any help.
